John attended Canterbury University where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1984. He was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1985. Following a period of overseas travel and corporate work in Wellington, he returned to Canterbury to join his father Ron in partnership in 1992 and is today the senior partner of the firm. In 1996 John became a founding member of the New Zealand Trustees Association and has remained a member of that organisation ever since. He is an independent trustee for numerous trusts and is a director of many companies.
John specialises in rural and recreational land related transactions, asset protection advise, commercial and business law, tax planning structures, trusts and estate management/succession matters. He has been involved in some substantial joint venture transactions over the years and has represented the interests of large landholders, both New Zealanders and overseas persons. However he also undertakes the many varied transactions involved in a general practise of the law, especially in a rural environment. He enjoys dealing with clients from all walks of life. He attends many legal conferences and seminars to ensure he keeps abreast of the many changes to the law.
His personal assistant, Katrina, is also a qualified legal executive. Katrina has been providing invaluable support and assistance to John since she joined the firm in 2000.

Interests/hobbies:
Enjoying the great outdoors of New Zealand with his wife Juliet, most outdoor activities and co-directing a rural seed processing business with it's origins going back over 100 years.
